Your Work in Canada, Your Path to PR
If you’ve built your life here in Canada and gained valuable work experience, the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is your pathway to permanent residency. This program is designed for skilled workers with at least 12 months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) Canadian work experience in an eligible NOC job category (usually TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3). You must also meet minimum language proficiency depending on your job type. Your work experience must be legally gained, meaning you held valid work authorization in Canada. You’ll also need to meet specific language levels: at least CLB 7 for jobs in TEER 0 or 1, and CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 positions.
On top of that, you’ll need to meet the minimum language proficiency of CLB 7 in English or French, and have your foreign education assessed through an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). You must also score at least 67 points out of 100 on the program’s own points grid before even being considered under Express Entry.
Common Mistakes
Common mistakes include misunderstanding the type of work that counts (not all work qualifies), especially when it comes to self-employment or student work, or not meeting the required language levels for your job category. These issues can result in delays or rejection of your application.
